This interactive byte simulator demonstrates the core principle of computer systems: Information is Bits + Context. It inspects how a single 8-bit binary sequence represents distinct data types across different system decoding rules in real time.
🔬 The 5 Context Interpretation Lenses
- ASCII Text (Char Encoding): Maps byte values to human-readable characters, printable glyphs, and fundamental control characters (such as
NUL,TAB,LF, andCR). - Unsigned Integer (0–255): Interprets raw binary bits as pure positive numeric magnitudes using direct positional base-2 arithmetic.
- Signed Integer (-128–127): Demonstrates hardware Two's Complement arithmetic, revealing how the Most Significant Bit (MSB,
b7) acts as the sign flag. - 8-bit Color (RGB 3-3-2): Decodes a single byte directly into a pixel color via hardware channel slicing (3 bits Red, 3 bits Green, 2 bits Blue) with live hex swatch rendering.
- x86-64 Machine Opcode: Disassembles the byte into single-byte processor machine instructions (such as
pushq,pop,nop, orretq), highlighting the bridge between memory bytes and CPU execution.
